Doctor held for buying luxury car with fake draft

NEW DELHI - A 27-year-old doctor has been arrested in an alleged case of cheating and submitting a fake demand draft when buying a luxury car, police said here Monday.
“Varun Kaul, a doctor by profession, was arrested Friday after he submitted a fake demand draft to buy a luxury car in south Delhi,” said a senior police officer.
“A case of cheating was registered April 3,” added the police official.
“After two weeks of investigation, Kaul came into suspicious as he was earlier involved in such cases. We laid a trap April 16 in Gurgaon and arrested him,” the police officer said.
According to police, Kaul had become an expert in forging demand drafts.
Two cars and four mobile phones were recovered from him.
Kaul, who passed out of Mumbai University in 2005, also played table tennis for eight years at the national level.
He was arrested earlier in 2008 by the Mumbai police in a similar case of fraud when he used the same method for cheating jewellers.
According to police, Kaul also forged essential identity documents like voter identity card which are essential for buying a vehicle.
His father Brij Bhushan Kaul is absconding with another vehicle procured through the same method, police claimed.
