Mom, baby die in car-SUV wreck on snowy NY roadway
GRAND ISLAND, N.Y. — An SUV pulling a trailer with two snowmobiles on it has crashed into a car on a snow-covered roadway in western New York near Niagara Falls, killing a woman and her baby daughter.
Erie County police say 22-year-old Stephanie Ali lost control of her car Tuesday evening and crossed over into oncoming traffic on a main roadway in the town of Grand Island, northwest of Buffalo. They say the driver of the SUV couldn’t avoid hitting her.
Sheriff Timothy B. Howard says Ali’s 5-month-old daughter, Grace Ingalsbe, was in an infant seat in the back of the car when it was struck.
He says the SUV’s driver was examined at the scene but wasn’t injured and was released.
Police say their preliminary investigation suggests the snowy roadway contributed to the accident.
