Early morning NC apartment fire kills 1, injures 4
WILMINGTON, N.C. — One person has died and four others were injured in an early morning fire at a North Carolina apartment complex.
The fire began around 3 a.m. Saturday at the Cypress Pointe Apartment Homes, which are near the University of North Carolina Wilmington.
The name of the victim has not been released. Authorities did not release the conditions of the four people taken to the hospital.
It’s not yet clear whether any students were involved. Spring classes start Monday.
The fire destroyed four apartments and damaged all 16 units in the building. It took firefighters 30 minutes to get the blaze under control. More than a dozen people spilled into the parking lot, most in pajamas in the freezing cold.
