Spate of crimes against jewellers in Agra

AGRA - The recent spate of crimes targeting Agra’s jewellers has left businessmen dealing in the yellow metal here worried.

Three bikers looted 35 kg of silver from two jewellers in the busy Peepal Mandi area of the city Sunday.

“The victims, Mukul Bansal and Bobby, were on a two-wheeler and going to their shop. They were carrying 71 kg of silver and 60 kg of brass, in two packets. The robbers attacked them near Kala Mandir locality of Peepal Mandi, and snatched a packet containing 35 kg of silver and around 50 kg of brass,” police said.

In another incident, a jeweller’s shop was burgled Saturday in Sarla Bagh. Gold and silver ornaments worth several lakh rupees were stolen.

“We later found the empty safe in a field,” police said. The same day, another city jeweller was looted of 11 kg of silver.

Many such incidents have been reported throughout October, police said.
