Mexico City, May 24 (IANS/EFE) Four members of an environment inspection team were tortured and shot dead and their bodies were stripped naked and buried partially at a suburban city near the Mexican capital, officials said.

The bodies of two environmental inspectors, a municipal police officer and their guide were found in a ditch in Temazcaltepec city, which forms part of the Mexico City metropolitan area, the Attorney General’s Office said Sunday.

The team was investigating dumping of toxic substances, the office said, adding that all four people were tortured and shot to death. Their nude bodies were left partially buried in the ditch.

They were working on a tip off from a citizen about the presence of toxic waste in Temascaltepec, it said.

The inspectors reportedly found chemicals used by drug traffickers to process drugs and were killed by an organised crime group, Mexican media reported.
