Gangster shot dead in Agra

AGRA - A criminal, wanted in more than two dozen cases and carrying an award of Rs.1 lakh on his head, was shot dead in Agra district by the Uttar Pradesh police Monday, police said.

Neeraj Singh, 32, of the state’s Jaunpur area was gunned down by a team of the police’s Special Task Force (STF) in Dahtora village area near Sikandra in Agra.

He had fled while being taken from Allahabad to Jaunpur by train for a court hearing after his associates gunned down two policemen on the train March 16.

The STF teams had been looking for him in many districts of the state as well as in Gujarat and Rajasthan. His brother Pankaj is also a criminal and both had earlier been associates of J.P. Yadav gang operating in eastern Uttar Pradesh.
