At least eight people drowned when a country boat capsized in a local river in Bihar last night, officials said today.

Officials said the victims were crossing a river on a boat when it capsized in the midstream.

The victims were returning after attending a feast on the other side of the river when the boat sank.

Of the eight dead, five are children.

There were 15 persons on board the boat. Of them seven swam to safety.

Last year, at least 60 people had died when an overcrowded boat sank in a river in the same district.
