HAITI, MEXICO (GaeaTimes.com)- A 7.0 magnitude earthquake has hit Haiti and many buildings have been leveled. The quake which hit the impoverished Haiti at 21:53 GMT, Tuesday, January 12, has been the region’s biggest quake ever recorded. The quake was felt over 10 miles and left Port-au-Prince in total chaos. There is widespread fear that thousands of people missing may be dead by now or badly injured in the collapsed structures. The country had not yet completely recovered from the 2008 storms that took away the lives of as many as 800 people.

According to the Haiti Earthquake news the 7.0 magnitude earthquake that hit Haiti was followed by a number of strong after quakes which too caused the buildings to be leveled. The Western hemisphere’s poorest country- Haiti has seen a blasphemous loss and destruction in the last 24 hours. The UN building, which has a task force of around 9,000 in Haiti itself, has been badly damaged and many of the personnel have been missing since the tragedy. A school, that was filled with children, collapsed and even the presidential palace was damaged. The authorities say that “there’s going to be serious loss of life”.

The Haiti earthquake news updates will certainly bring in more information of the situation. After the 7.0 magnitude earthquake hit Haiti, the rescuers are working in the rubble of the buildings leveled to rescue as many as possible. Specialized task forces are being sent from Nevada to Mexico. UNICEF has already deployed its workers who have already started providing medical support to people and children who had been separated from their elders. The situation could have been worse since the area is densely populated.
