Man held for carjacking, killing driver

NEW DELHI - A 20-year-old youth , allegedly involved in carjacking and the murder of the vehicle’s driver, was arrested in east Delhi. He wanted to impress his girlfriends by driving around in the stolen luxury car, police said Tuesday.

Israr Malik, a resident of Mohan Nagar in Uttar Pradesh, was held Monday near Apsara border close to Ghaziabad.

On Jan 30, Malik along and his three associates took a lift from the driver of a luxury car from Ashram Chowk to Dhaula Kuan.

When the car moved ahead, one of the accused hit driver Sandeep Mandal and took control of the car. They strangled Mandal and dumped his body in a forest near Karhedda village in Ghaziabad, said a police officer.

Mandal’s body was later recovered by Uttar Pradesh Police.

During interrogation, Malik said he wanted to roam around in a luxury car to impress his girlfriends. He told police he was also involved in other similar cases.

Efforts are on to nab his three associates, said a senior police officer.
