BHUBANESWAR - Bhartruhari Mahtab, an MP from Orissa’s ruling Biju Janata Dal, was Sunday booked for attacking a police officer who prevented his supporters from entering a museum complex, police said.

Mahtab allegedly assaulted Sub-Inspector Amitabha Mohapatra inside the Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Birthplace Museum in Cuttack, 26 km from here, after the latter prevented his supporters from entering the complex through a narrow passage citing security reasons.

The incident took place few minutes after Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik arrived in the complex to attend a special programme commemorating the 114th birth anniversary of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose.

“Although Mahtab was allowed inside, his supporters were prevented because of security reasons,” inspector in charge of the local police station S.K. Dash told IANS.

Angry over the refusal, Mahtab, who represents Cuttack constituency in the Lok Sabha, allegedly returned from inside and assaulted the police officer, Dash said.

“We have registered case on the basis of a written complaint lodged by Mohapatra,” he said.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Amitendra Nath Sinha said investigations were on.
