RAIPUR - Maoist guerrillas blew up three bridges in Chhattisgarh’s restive Bastar region Thursday, police said.

The rebels blew up the bridges in Kirandul area in Dantewada district, some 400 km from state capital Raipur.

“Two of the bridges were under construction while the third one had been recently constructed. The rebels placed explosives under the bridges and triggered the blast,” an official at police headquarters here said.

Dantewada is part of the 40,000 sq km Bastar region. The region, comprising four other districts Narayanpur, Kanker, Bastar and Bijapur, is a stronghold of the Maoists.
