Magistrate sacked for demanding dowry

BHOPAL - The Madhya Pradesh High Court Thursday sacked a judicial magistrate in the state for demanding dowry.

Inder Singh Malaviya, a first class magistrate in Shahdol district, sought dowry on the day of his wedding with Monica Solanki at Dewas Dec 1.

The magistrate reportedly came in a drunken condition to the wedding venue and refused to join the ceremonies till the bride’s family gave him a car and Rs.1 lakh in dowry.

The marriage was called off by the disgusted bride’s family.

The Jabalpur bench of the high court took note of the incident and ordered an inquiry, which found the magistrate guilty.

An additional sessions judge in Dewas dismissed Malaviya’s anticipatory bail petition Dec 7. The man is yet to be arrested, Superintendent of Police S.P. Singh told IANS.
