ISLAMABAD - A young woman was killed by her husband a couple of days after the wedding in Muridke near Lahore as her parents did not give him a car as a gift in dowry, a media report said Tuesday.
The incident was reported to police by the woman’s family.
An FIR (first information report with the police) has been registered against (the groom) Sajid…on the complaint of the girl’s brother,” police authorities were quoted as saying by Express TV.
Initial investigations have revealed that Sajid was cut-up that his in-laws only gave a motorbike in dowry despite his insistence on a car,” police said, adding that he shot himself in the leg to convey an impression that his bride was killed in a robbery.
Sajid also alleged that his bride, Shumaila, was involved in adultery,” police said.
The pistol used in the murder has been recovered.
Shumaila’s brother Anwar-ul-Haq said, Sajid was pressurising her to demand a car from her parents and got infuriated by her refusal.
However, Sajid denied involvement in the murder.
She was a good woman and I had not put pressure on her for anything,” he said while talking to media from the lock-up and insisted that the charges are false.
Shumaila was buried Monday evening. The police is searching for Sajid’s brothers Abid and Asghar, who are believed to have helped him in carrying-out the murder.
