CHANDIGARH - In a rare gesture of honesty, a head constable of the Punjab Police Monday returned a purse containing thousands of rupees to its owner who had mislaid it at a bus stand in Balachaur town, some 70 km from here.

Head Constable Amrik Singh, posted at the office of the addition director general of police (ADGP) (intelligence) at the police headquarters here, found the purse containing Rs.12,000 and other documents at a bus stand in Balachaur, a police officer said.

Based on the identity documents in the purse, he contacted the owner Rajinder Singh, a driver in Chandigarh depot of the Pepsu Roadways Transport Corporation (PRTC).

He returned the purse to Rajinder after verifying his credentials.

Commending Amrik Singh’s honesty, ADGP Suresh Arora awarded him a Commendation Certificate along with a cash prize of Rs.1,000.
