LUCKNOW - Panic gripped a hospital in Uttar Pradeshs Gorakhpur district Tuesday when a fire broke out inside its visitors hall and began to spread to the patients wards, an official said. Fire fighters swiftly put out the blaze and no casualty was reported in the incident.

The fire engulfed the ground floor hall of the private Chapadia Hospital near Betiahata crossing.

It could have resulted in a major mishap, but with the timely intervention of our teams, the fire was brought under control before it could harm the patients admitted in the hospital,” Chief Fire Officer (CFO) V.P. Singh told reporters in Gorakhpur, some 300 km from Lucknow.

With the help of the police we managed to rescue all the visitors from inside the hall. No one was seriously injured in the incident,” he added.

Though the exact cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained, a fire-fighting official said an electrical short-circuit could be a possible reason behind the incident.
