SANGRUR - A man has been booked here on charges of conniving with his wife to kill his elderly father in Punjab over a property row, police said Wednesday.

Gurpreet Singh of Roshanwala village in Sangrur district killed 60-year-old Prem Singh Dec 3.

He stabbed his father in the stomach and buried his body in the courtyard of the house. He then lodged a complaint with police that his father had gone missing, Deputy Superintendent of Police Swaran Singh said.

Gurpreet’s brothers, however, suspected foul play. Police then raided his home.

“At his house, we recovered Prem Singh’s body and found a confession note, in which Gurpreet admitted to the crime. Gurpreet and his wife are absconding,” Swaran Singh said.

A police official said Gurpreet, a drug addict, killed his father because he was planning to disown him vis-a-vis his property. Prem Singh was a retired teacher and gave private tuitions to school children.
