LUCKNOW - A labourer was killed and eight others were injured Friday when a major portion of an under-construction building collapsed in Uttar Pradesh’s Ibrahimpur town in Ambedkar Nagar district, police said.
The state-owned Seed Development Corporation building came down when around 20 labourers were carrying out the construction work.
“Of the nine labourers, who were rescued by us and admitted to the district hospital, one died during the treatment,” Additional Superintendent of Police Anil Kumar told IANS on phone from Ibrahimpur, some 200 km from Lucknow.
According to police, three labourers were referred to the trauma centre in Lucknow as their condition deteriorated.
Kumar declined to name the construction agency involved in the project.
Labourers and locals alleged that the collapse took place because sub-standard construction material was being used.
