LUCKNOW - A massive fire broke out in a plastic scrapyard in Uttar Pradesh’s Kanpur district early Monday. No casualties were reported in the incident, an official said.
The fire engulfed the scrapyard in Juhi area and soon spread to nearby establishments.
“It was a major fire. It took over four hours to control the fire. Nine fire tenders were pressed into service,” Chief Fire Officer (CFO) Ram Darash told reporters in Kanpur, some 80 km from Lucknow.
“At the time of the fire, some people were present inside the scrapyard. With the help of police and fire-fighting officials all of them were safely rescued. No one has been injured in the incident,” he said.
Though the cause of the fire is yet to be established, fire-fighting officials have ruled out the possibility of an electric short-circuit behind the incident.
“There were no electric wires in the scrapyard. So, the question of electric short-circuit does not arise. The fire took place due to some other reasons,” Darash said.
The financial loss due to the fire was yet to be ascertained, a police officer said.
