LUCKNOW - A six-year-old girl student was killed and two other students were critically injured in Uttar Pradesh’s Etawah district Friday after a portion of an iron gate of the school collapsed, police said.
The iron gate collapsed in the government-run Dhanua Primary School in Jaswantnagar town, some 200 km from Lucknow.
A portion of the school gate collapsed when some students were playing near it. While Kajal, a Class 1 student died on the spot, two of her batchmates received critical injuries,” police inspector K.K. Badboti told reporters in Etawah.
The two injured students - Hemant and Kushboo - are being treated at the district hospital. The condition of Hemant is stated to be serious,” he said.
According to police, preliminary investigations indicate that the gate was an old one. It was to be repaired by the school authorities.
We have initiated an enquiry into the matter. Necessary action would be taken against the school administration on the completion of the enquiry,” said Badboti.
