Hearing on Amin’s approver plea postponed

GANDHINAGAR - A special Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court Friday adjourned to Dec 6 hearing on suspended police officer N.K. Amin’s plea to turn approver in the Sohrabuddin Sheikh staged shootout case.
Special CBI Judge A.Y. Dave adjourned the hearing as Amin’s lawyer was not present before the court.
The Gujarat High Court earlier made it clear that whether to tender pardon or not was between the court trying the case and the accused, and the co-accused cannot have any say at that stage.
Eight co-accused in the case, including Deputy Inspector General of Police D.G. Vanzara and others, have challenged the constitutionality of Amin’s plea. The CBI judge had referred the case to the high court seeking its rulin. However, the high court sent back the matter with the observations that co-accused could not have a say in a plea on turning approver.
The CBI said recording Amin’s statement would be important as he could reveal the exact sequence of events and give vital information. The CBI supported the plea on the condition that he would give true and full disclosure to the probe agency.
