Not able to enroll for a course, woman hangs self

LUCKNOW - Depressed over not being able to enroll for a computer course due to financial constraints, a 22-year-old woman committed suicide here by hanging herself Wednesday, police said.

Swati Gupta, a final year M.Com student, hung herself from a pole in her courtyard with a scarf at her residence in Krishnanagar locality.

Preliminary investigations reveal that Swati tried her best to convince her father, owner of a makeshift food stall, to enroll her for a computer course, but took the extreme step after she was told that she would not be able to pursue the course due to the familys poor financial condition,” police inspector Virendra Kumar told reporters.

According to the victims family, Swati was remaining aloof for the last several days, he added.
