FATEHABAD - In a case of honour killing over caste, a young man in Haryana’s Jind district was murdered by his wife’s brother and an accomplice for belonging to a different caste, police said Sunday.

Sukhbir Singh, in his early 20s and a resident of Rajgarh village in Jind district, was killed by his wife’s brother, Jagjit Singh, and his accomplice Friday, police said.

Police arrested both the accused late Saturday evening.

“Jagjit Singh and his accomplice waylaid Sukhbir near Tohana town (around 20 km from here), while he was going to Hisar. They hit his bike with their car and opened fire at him. It is a clear case of honour killing,” said Suresh Kaushik, deputy superintendent of police, Fatehabad, here.

“Sukhbir married Karandeep Kaur of Peepaltha village (in Fatehabad district) in May against the wishes of her family members, who opposed the alliance because of the caste difference,” he said.
