KARACHI - A two-year old ban on pillion riding in Karachi has been lifted, a media report said.

The Sindh government Tuesday lifted the ban on pillion riding in this port city, Express Tribune reported Wednesday.

The ban had been in place for the past two years in Karachi and Hyderabad due to security reasons following target killings, the media report said.

Many of the target killings in this city were carried out by men riding a motorcycle, with the pillion rider opening fire at the target.

The lifting of the ban was well received by locals.

Motorcycle is the only means of transport for thousands of families who faced a lot of inconvenience due to the pillion riding ban.

The Sindh Home Ministry has also directed the police not to harass pillion riders.

Karachi has been a victim of poor law and order situation and target killings, and it has given a strong sense of insecurity to the people.
