PANAJI - A police constable was suspended Wednesday after he gambled in a casino while on duty, misbehaved with the casino staff and even went to the extend of hitting a senior police officer, police said.
Police constable Vikram Naik has been suspended today (Wednesday) and a departmental enquiry has been started against him, Superintendent of Police Arvind Gawas said.
Sources said the management of a shore-based casino in Panaji contacted the police for assistance after the constable started misbehaving with the casino staff Monday night.
He even hit a police sub-inspector whose fingers were fractured as a result of the assault, a police official said.
