PANAJI - At least 16 railway passengers were injured after a boulder crashed onto a compartment of the Matsyagandha Express near Karwar station in Karnataka Monday night, police here said.
Karwar’s Superintendent of Police Raman Gupta told IANS that the incident occurred at around 8 p.m. on the Konkan railway track near Todur village near Karwar, just ahead of a railway tunnel.
“Four people received serious injuries and they have been admitted to a government hospital. There is report of one person succumbing to injuries, but I am not in a position to confirm it rightaway, Gupta said.
Konkan Railway officials said that a team of officials and medics had been rushed to the accident spot.
Landslides are not uncommon on the Konkan Railway tracks during the monsoon, when rocky gravel and boulders slip onto the tracks causing accidents.
