KOLKATA - A young man duped an elderly man Friday of Rs.70,000 by offering to help him deposit it in a bank here - and promptly fled with the money.

Police said the 65-year-old man had gone to a State Bank of India branch at Jadavpur.

When he collected the deposit slip from the counter, a youth approached him and offered to help fill up the form.

He told the old man to sign and wait until he returned with the deposit slip, said a witness.

When he did not return for a long time, the elderly man raised an alarm. By then the culprit had escaped.
