AGARTALA - A police inspector in Tripura has been arrested on charges of raping a minor girl at his official residence, police said Friday.
“Kamalpur police station (Dhalai district) in-charge Dilip Guha was arrested late Thursday night and suspended from service for allegedly raping a girl inside his official residence,” Deputy Inspector General of Police Nepal Das told reporters.
“Guhas domestic help, a woman, allegedly helped the police inspector to rape the 14-year-old girl Tuesday night after forcibly making her drink liquor,” he said.
The girl returned to her home at Khowai (in western Tripura) Thursday and informed her parents of the incidnet, following which her father filed a first information report (FIR) against the police officer late Thursday.
A local court at Khowai, 90 km north of here, Friday sent Guha to 14-day judicial custody.
Police are looking for Guhas maid-servent, who has now run away.
The police have initiated a probe by a senior officer.
The issue also rocked the state assembly, whose winter session begun Friday, with opposition Congress members demanding stern action against Guha.
