NEW DELHI - A group of men who beat a bus driver to death after an argument in Seemapuri area of east Delhi Saturday are still absconding, police said.
Sheikh Kale, 48, was beaten to death by some persons travelling in a Toyota Qualis for not allowing them to overtake his bus.
“We are on the lookout for the men in the red Toyota Qualis. The victim’s helper could not count the number of men in the car as he was fast asleep,” police said Monday.
The car had a Haryana registration number, police added.
A case of culpable homicide, under Section 304 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), has been registered at the Seemapuri police station.
According to police, Kale, who worked with a private tour operator for the last 10 years, was returning home after dropping off a few passengers in Zaffrabad area of east Delhi.
He reportedly brushed against a Toyota Qualis car while overtaking it. The men in the car then followed the bus, forced Kale to stop, and started thrashing him.
“They even hit him with bricks,” police said.
Sheikh was taken to Guru Tegh Bahadur Hospital in Shahdara, where he was declared brought dead. He is survived by his wife and seven children, aged between 11 to 19 years.
