AMRITSAR - Former mayor of Amritsar Sunil Datti and three others have been booked for harassing a young man, who set himself on fire and died, police said Friday.
Ravi, in his late 20s, was admitted to the Guru Nanak hospital here with 70 percent burn injuries late Wednesday and died Thursday after being shifted to a private hospital.
In his statement to police, Ravi accused Sunil Datti, Sonu Datti, Billa and Bablu of beating him and harassing him over property.
Ravi said the four reached his house Wednesday and told him to vacate his 500-square-yard ancestral plot. They slapped him and threatened him of dire consequences. Following this, Ravi poured kerosene over himself and lit the match.
“On the basis of the statement, we have registered a case against Sunil Datti and three others. It is too early to arrest anyone as our investigation is still under way,” a police official told IANS.
