BHUBANESWAR - Four men, who were among seven people caught allegedly attempting to commit a theft in a house, were beaten to death in Orissa’s Mayurbhanj district early Monday, police said.

The residents of Gunjasahi village, about 270 km from here, thrashed the seven men and left them in a nearby forest.

“After being informed of the incident, police rushed to the spot and took all the seven people to a nearby hospital where three of them were declared dead,” police officer Narayan Nayak told IANS.

Another person later died in the hospital.

Three men, who have sustained critical injuries, are undergoing treatment in the district hospital, he said.

Locals alleged that the seven men committed a theft in a nearby area and were later caught attempting another theft.
