Plane with six people goes missing in Mexico

Veracruz (Mexico), Oct 8 (IANS/EFE) A small plane with six people onboard disappeared after taking off from a Mexican airport, officials said.

The Cessna-Citation aircraft, belonging to the Alfe air taxi company, was reported missing minutes after taking off from the Canticas airport in Minatitlan, 578 km from Mexico City.

The plane was heading from Minatitlan to the port city of Veracruz, but it never reached its destination or any nearby airport, they said.

The passengers were executives of the Coppel department store chain, which operates across Mexico.

The officials, however, did not say whether an executives was flying the plane or the aircraft had a pilot and co-pilot.

State and federal rescue teams are searching for the aircraft in the Santa Martha mountains, where the last contact with the plane occurred.
