Nigerian media mogul released from police custody
LAGOS, Nigeria — Authorities have released a media mogul hours after he was arrested and accused of involvement in the deadly car bombings in Nigeria’s capital.
Raymond Dokpesi is the owner of the Africa Independent Television network and also chairs the presidential campaign for former military dictator Ibrahim Babangida.
Babangida campaign spokesman Kassim Afegbua said Dokpesi was released from police custody late Monday.
Nigerian officials say they believe there are “clear links” between Dokpesi and a former leader for the militant organization that has claimed responsibility for the attacks that killed 12 people Friday.
Critics, though, have accused Nigeria’s president of attempting to sideline a political opponent ahead of the 2011 presidential election.
