Warrant against Andhra cop for cheating girl

HYDERABAD - A court in Andhra Pradesh Monday issued a non-bailable warrant against a police official for allegedly cheating a girl with the promise of marrying her.
A magistrate at Ponnur in Guntur district issued the warrant against Sub Inspector Ranganath Goud for not appearing before the court.
The court directed the police to arrest Goud and produce him before Oct 12.
Goud, who is currently working in Nellore district, has not appeared in the court for the last eight weeks and the court has taken serious note of this.
Razia Sultana had last year alleged that Goud sexually exploited her after promising to marry her. She lodged a complaint with the police.
Police had registered a case against the sub inspector for sexual assault, cheating and criminal intimidation and arrested him in December. The government had also suspended Goud but later reinstated him.
The issue hit the headlines with women’s groups supporting the girl and demanding action against the police official.
Razia, a B Pharmacy student, had also launched an indefinite fast but called it off after being assured by senior police officials that justice would be done.
