Two Rajasthan cops held for colleague’s rape, murder

KOTA - Two Rajasthan policemen were arrested Saturday in connection with rape and murder of a woman constable in a police station earlier this week, police said.

Both the policemen were arrested Saturday and sent by a court to judicial custody till Oct 4, a police official told IANS.

According to preliminary investigations, the rape and murder occurred inside Chechat police station here Thursday night. Driver Desraj and Constable Laangri raped and then murdered the woman constable.

The blood-stained body of the victim was found in the barracks the next morning, the official said.

The post-mortem examination of the body showed the woman was raped, the official said.

“Besides arresting the two policemen, the remaining staff of the police station have been ordered to be sent to police lines,” Rajasthan Home Minister Shanti Dhariwal said.

Dhariwal said that such acts cannot be tolerated in any circumstances.

“The additional director general of police (vigilance) will probe the rape and murder case,” he added.

Meanwhile, the state government has announced a compensation of Rs.10 lakh for the victim’s family.
