HYDERABAD - Sekhar Goud, an engineering student who was on the run after killing his junior Divya, was Friday arrested at Nampally railway station here, police said.

The accused told police that he murdered his former girlfriend for “betrayal”. The two were reportedly in relationship for four years but of late Divya had started seeing another boy.

Infuriated at this, Sekhar killed Diya by smashing her head with a baseball bat at his flat at Vanasthalipuram area in the city last Sunday.

The police came to know of the murder when they were alerted by Divya’s friend Pradeep, who received a message from Sekhar. In his SMS, Sekhar said he had murdered Divya and was thinking of committing suicide.

The police found the body of 20-year-old Divya, student of Vignan Engineering College on the city outskirts, in a pool of blood.

Sekhar told the police that after killing Divya, he fled to Mumbai, where his parents live. He, however, returned here Friday as the police were mounting pressure on his relatives.

Describing Sekhar as a “psycho killer”, police sources said he would be sent for a complete medical examination and will be taken to the crime scene before taking him to a court.

Hailing from Nalgonda district, Sekhar had called Divya to his flat Sunday to sort out their differences.

Divya was staying with her relatives in Habsiguda as her parents stayed in Kolkata.
