8 homes catch fire in northern Va., 3 destroyed
MANASSAS, Va. — Authorities say wind-whipped flames destroyed three houses and damaged five others as a three-alarm blaze quickly swept down a street in a northern Virginia subdivision.
Firefighters took more than two hours to control the fire, which began just after 3 p.m. Thursday in Manassas.
Prince William County Assistant Fire Chief Hadden Culp says the fire started at one home and quickly spread down the street to neighboring homes. He says wind and the fact that the single-family homes are so close together helped spread the flames.
Prince William County spokesman Jason Grant says two people were treated for minor injuries and at least 11 residents have been displaced by the fire. Officials say one person had a hand injury and the other felt ill.
