NEW DELHI - Delhi Police Thursday arrested three people accused of stealing a motor vehicle belonging to MP Mahabal Mishra last month.

“They have been identified as Sunil, 35, Satya Rao, 30 and Jasbir, 29,” said police. Mishra’s white coloured Endeavour car was stolen Aug 6 from Dwarka after his driver was overpowered by four men, who tied his hands and blindfolded him. The driver was dropped off at a remote place by the gang who then drove off with the vehicle.

After ruling out several professional gangs, the special team of Delhi Police zeroed in on Sunil who was recently arrested by anti auto-theft squad and was on bail. His movements were monitored and he was later arrested, a police official said.

During interrogation, he revealed that Mishra’s car was initially stolen by his gang who later sold it to Satya Rao and Babloo for Rs.2.5 lakh. The vehicle was sent to Wasim Qureshi, a resident of Meerut in Uttar Pradesh.

“Qureshi changed its engine and chassis numbers and prepared forged documents having registration number PB-08-BH-8416 and returned the vehicle to Satya Rao and Babloo. In the meantime, one Narender, receiver of stolen vehicles, was nabbed by Jaipur Police and Satya Rao could not supply this vehicle to him,” police.

The vehicle was then taken to the industrial area in Bhiwadi (Rajasthan).

Sunil has previously been arrested by Rajasthan Police and Gurgaon Police in 2005. In 2010, he was arrested twice in Delhi in two different cases.
