NEW DELHI - A Pakistani spy, who worked as a cab driver during his one-year stay in the country, has been arrested from south Delhi, police said Tuesday.

Sajjad Haider, 43, who hails from Lahore in Pakistan, was arrested by the anti-terror unit of Delhi Police, Special Cell, Sep 14 from a house in Samalkha Village in southwest Delhi, police said.

He was living in the capital under an assumed name of Mohammed Pervez. During his stay, the accused worked as a driver on cabs attached to call centres in Gurgaon and Delhi, a police official said.

“Confidential documents related to Indian Army, a fake Indian driving licence, an Indian PAN card along with Western Union money transfer receipts, rent agreements, mobile sim cards and phones have been recovered from him,” the official said.

The police had received secret information Sep 14 from a central intelligence agency that a spy was living in Delhi and supplying confidential documents and information related to Indian armed forces to his Pakistani handlers.

According to the police official, the accused confessed to his crime and admitted that he had been tasked to collect information regarding movement of the armed forces and details of cantonment areas of Punjab.

“He was motivated and trained by Pakistan’s (Inter-Services Intelligence) ISI agents and had received training for five months in military trade craft in Lahore. He entered India illegally via the India-Bangladesh border in September last year,” said the police official.

He has revealed names of those who facilitated his activities in India and they are being questioned, police added.
