SRINAGAR - A moderate intensity tremor Saturday jolted the Kashmir Valley, already rocked by the massive three-month long violence which has claimed 96 lives.
No loss of life or property was reported from anywhere because of the tremor, but the toll kept on mounting with two more deaths Saturday. A total of 96 people have lost their lives in the ongoing unrest in the valley that started June 11.
“A moderate intensity earthquake measuring 6.5 on the Richter scale jolted the valley at 12.52 a.m. The epicentre of the quake was located at 36.5 degrees north and 70.8 degrees east,” an official of the local weather office told IANS here.
“The epicentre was in the Hindu Kush mountains in Afghanistan-Pakistan region,” the official said.
