SHIMLA - Five of a family, including two children, were killed when the house they were sleeping in was hit by rolling boulders in Himachal Pradesh’s Kullu district, police said Wednesday.
“Three women and two children were killed on the spot last (Tuesday) night when boulders from the hill-top rolled down and hit the house in a village near Manikaran,” Superintendent of Police K.K. Indoria told IANS.
He said over telephone that all the victims died on the spot and their bodies were recovered Wednesday morning. Police came to know about the incident in the morning.
“It seemed that the boulders got dislodged due to loose soil. The area has been witnessing moderate to heavy rainfall for the past few days,” he added.
The victims have been identified as Kubaja Devi (55), Nirmala (17), Shalu Devi (25) and children Bhupinder and Jiwan Lata.
Manikaran, some 55 km from district headquarters Kullu, is famous for a Sikh shrine.
