MALAPPURAM - A 53-year-old police sub-inspector of the Kalikavu police station was shot dead by an accused here Sunday when the former went to arrest him.
Police said Vijayakrishnan and five policemen reached home of accused Mujib to arrest him in a molestation case.
Mujib had an argument with the police team and fired at Vijayakrishnan twice and escaped.
The bullets hit Vijayakrishnan on his chest and neck. He was rushed to a nearby government hospital but he succumbed to injuries on way to the hospital.
Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan has asked state police chief Jacob Punnoose to visit the area.
