Woman, three kids drowned

SHAHJAHANPUR - A woman and her three minor children drowned in a pond in this Uttar Pradesh district Saturday, police said.

Kamla Kashyap, 38, and her three children - aged between 3-10 years - died in the Dheeryapur pond in the Mirzapur town.

“While Kamla was busy washing clothes at the pond, her three children were playing near it. Her three-year-old daughter Nanhi accidentally fell into the pond,” police inspector Atul Pradhan told reporters in Shahjahanpur, some 150 km from Lucknow.

“While Kamla jumped into the pond to save her daughter, the other two children (a boy and a girl) also jumped in and all the four drowned,” he added.
