CHANDIGARH - Three employees of a Chandigarh-based automobile dealer have been booked for fraudulently selling a damaged car by presenting it as new to a customer, police said Wednesday.
According to the police, deputy manager Manoj Kaushal and salesmen Tariq Khan and Arvind Kumar of Lally Automobiles have been booked for cheating their customer Kamaljit Kaur, a resident of neighbouring Mohali town.
“The accused sold a demo Honda car costing Rs.9 lakh to Kamaljit in Oct 2009. But originally, the car was a February 2009 model and it had met with two major accidents in April and September 2009. They had also claimed around Rs.50,000 from the insurance company,” Rajiv Kumar, investigation officer of the case, told IANS.
“So far, we have not arrested anybody but we would soon detain the three accused for questioning,” he added.
After buying the car Oct 31, 2009, Kamaljit realised she had been cheated in April this year.
“Within the four months of buying, my car started breaking down and giving me trouble very frequently. In April, I went to Lally Automobile to get the plugging of leakage in the engine-oil section. Then the computer operator told me that my vehicle was a February 2009 model,” said Kamaljit.
“Then, through an e-mail, the company officials offered to give me Rs.740,000 to settle the matter. But I refused it. I either want my full money back or a brand new car,” she said.
A few months back, a Pune-based customer had cheated Lally Automobiles by buying two Honda city cars by giving the firm fake cheques.
