Coyote killed; may have attacked 2 in NYC suburb
RYE BROOK, N.Y. — Police have killed a coyote believed to the same animal that attacked a teen and a toddler in two separate incidents within about an hour in a New York City suburb.
The coyote lunged at a trapper and was shot dead around 9 a.m. Monday in Rye Brook. It will be tested for rabies.
Authorities say there’s no way to be certain, but it appeared to be the same animal that lunged at a teen boy shortly before 7 p.m. Sunday. About an hour later, a 2-year-old girl was attacked near her home about two miles away. The toddler’s father took her to get medical care. The teen was unhurt.
In June, the town of Rye — about 3 miles from Rye Brook — had two coyote attacks within four days. Rye Brook is about 30 miles northeast of Manhattan.
