KOLKATA - Two people were allegedly abducted by real estate developers here in two separate incidents, police said Saturday.
According to the police, a goon-turned real estate promoter abducted another promoter due to personal rivalry Friday night from Topsia area on the eastern fringe of the city while a group of promoters abducted a 60-year-old woman Saturday morning to capture her 90-year-old house in south Kolkata.
In the first incident, a group of miscreants abducted local promoter Mohammad Sheikh Santu from his house at gun point and fled from the spot in a taxi, police said.
After initial investigations, police zeroed in on Siddiqui Zafar Alias Gudda - a miscreant of port area who had later turned a real estate developer.
“We have not yet lodged an FIR against Gudda as we are still investigating the matter. But our initial investigation suggests that he is behind the abduction as Santu is his arch rival,” a police officer said.
In the second incident, 60-year-old Jyotsna Ball was allegedly picked up from a local market Saturday morning. Her brother, Amitabha Kar, lodged a police complaint.
“We have received the complaint and initiated investigation into the matter,” Joint Police Commissioner Damayanti Sen said.
Jyotsna used to stay with her brother after the death of her husband. She was pressed several times by a local promoter to sell off her old house but she always refused.
