ROHTAK - The Haryana police Thursday arrested the brother and grand-mother and a cousin of a teenaged girl from Rohtak after she was killed for her love affair with a boy.
Rajni, 17, was a student of the Class 12 at the Vaish Girls’ Senior Secondary School in Rohtak, the home-town of Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, and a resident of Janata Colony here.
District police chief B. Sateesh Balan told reporters here that the girl was strangulated to death by her brother Deepak at their home late Wednesday night because the family disapproved of her love affair with a boy. The attack took place in the presence of other family members.
After her death, the family members tried to cremate Rajni’s body at night but the police got a tip-off about it. They stopped the car in which her body was being taken away at Mokhra village, 20 km from here, and arrested Deepak, her brother.
“The body of the victim was also recovered from the car,” Balan said.
Surinder, a cousin of Deepak, and the girl’s grand-mother, Jiwani Devi, were also arrested. They have been booked for murder and criminal conspiracy.
