NEW DELHI - Prime Minister Manmohan Singh Wednesday appealed to the citizens of the country to donate generously for the victims of the Leh flash floods.

In a message published in major national dailies, the prime minister said there is a need to extend all possible help to overcome the misfortune and to rebuild the lives of the people affected.

“I request all fellow citizens to stand shoulder to shoulder with our distressed brothers and sisters in Ladakh, and be part of the national effort to support them at this difficult time,” the message said.

“I appeal to all citizens to donate generously to the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund,” it added.

Flash floods triggered by a cloud burst devastated large parts of Ladakh’s biggest town Leh Aug 6. At least 183 people, including 35 army men, were killed in the natural disaster.
