Favor turns foul when Pa. police dog attacks girl
MCKEESPORT, Pa. — A Pennsylvania officer’s good deed backfired after his K-9 bit a 6-year-old girl who missed her bus to school and was offered a ride in the police cruiser.
Police in the western Pennsylvania town of McKeesport say the dog lunged at the girl Wednesday morning and bit her in the stomach when the girl’s mother opened the back door of the police car. The dog then bit the mother’s finger and the officer’s arm as they tried to wrestle the dog off the child.
The girl and her mother are being treated at a hospital. The officer’s arm was injured.
The dog is a 5-year police veteran and is being kept at the officer’s home while police investigate.
Police say the officer knew the girl and her mother and was trying to do them a favor.
