Explosions reported at Philly-area welding company
COLLINGDALE, Pa. — Multiple explosions have been reported at a welding supply company in suburban Philadelphia and police are evacuating nearby homes.
Delaware County Emergency Services Director Ed Truitt says the explosion happened just before 1 p.m. Wednesday at Scully Welding Supply in Collingdale.
Truitt says dispatchers received reports of multiple explosions, which were still ongoing when firefighters arrived. He says no injuries were immediately reported.
Broadcast footage from news helicopters at the scene shows firefighters dousing flames between a pair of large tanks and debris littering the area between the tanks and nearby buildings.
Truitt says authorities are evacuating about a quarter-mile in all directions for safety reasons.
Truitt says a hazardous materials team has been dispatched to the scene.
