RAIPUR - Three people were arrested in Chhattisgarh Tuesday for plotting to kill a legislator of the state’s opposition Congress party, police said.

Acting on a tip off, the police arrested a couple planning to hire a contractor to eliminate Agni Chandrakar who represents the Mahasamund assembly seat, and a person of Gariaband locality.

“A suspended constable, Sheetal Dhruv, his wife Man Bai - a teacher in Mahasamund - and another person were arrested,” said a police officer.

“The suspended constable had a longtime enmity with the legislator and he was ready to pay over Rs.20 lakh to a contract killer,” he added.
